Holidays !always a nightmare if you have animals ..........but last year for the first time ever we went abroad and put gemma in kennels ,dont get me wrong the kennel was great and she was fine (we done a lot of research)before choosing one , but it strikes me that maybe theres an easier soulotion ,would your parents/inlaws consider putting the bird in another room ??as you say its only for a couple of weeks and it would solve a huge problem for everyone .

Why can't you kennel him and have sids parents visit him there everyday ? I'm worried about the same thing with the boys so I won't kennel them for a holiday till they are older.

So difficult for you I would look into the house sitting agencies I think so he can stay in his own enviroment and be looked after. If I was doing that I think I would ring a few and ask to meet the people who might be likely to sit for him and make sure he is happy with them and allow them to walk him with you along too in the beginning just to check he gets on with them ok.
Hope you find a solution you are all happy with.

Know how you feel. We had to put our young dog into kennels for the weekend to attend a family wedding so nobody was around to look after our dog - 8 months old at the time as well.

I really didn't want to kennel him as he was a rescue and spent two weeks in a kennel at just 8 weeks old - but there was no alternative.

I spent ages looking for the right kennel and we were really lucky in that a new one had recently opened just a couple of miles away from us. Went to look round and was very impressed with both the facilities and the care.

He thouroughly enjoyed his stay and I knew he was being well looked after - four walks a day, half an hour free running in a huge fully fenced paddock (no other dogs in there during the free running periods) and very knowledgeable caring staff.

From being so worried that I was considering not going away I would now recommend the kennels to anyone. If you have found a kennels that meets all your criteria then I would go for that - there is always something going on for them to look at and a wonderful socialisation opportunity.
