Are these dogs rare in America?

I somehow doubt they are rare in the US as they are becoming very popular here in little ole Cyprus in the Middle East.

I do wonder about the wisdom of having dogs like this in a hot, dry, dusty country where temps often rise above 40deg and stay there for months and months with almost 10)% humidity. Esp. if they are left out on tiny verandahs all day. I feel very sorry for them.

They are 45th in breed list for 2012...There are 2types one being founded in US.,

Nope, they are fairly common, and are usually much nicer looking than those. The ones in the video look to be the american type Akita.

No they aren't all that rare and there are also plenty in Canada. They can get pretty big and are so beautiful but definitely not a dog for just anyone.
