Rico - Sha-Pei x

Rico is a 6 month old Shar Pei x and is currently on foster in Merthyr Tydfil.

Dog status: Adores other dogs and would love some canine company in his new home
Cat status: May be workable
Child status: Good but can be boisterous and jump up. Could be rehomed with dog savvy children over 8 years old
House training: 99%, very odd accident as he has settled in to foster home
Home alone: Happy to be left for short periods with doggy company
Basic training: Knows sit and paw and is learning good manners in his foster home



Rico is a lovely, friendly, enthusiastic ball of fun. He came to us as a stray which means we have no history before he went in to foster care.
We do not know what he is crossed with or his exact age but he is around 6 months.



Rico adores other dogs and loves to play. He is looking for a new home where there is at least one other dog for company.
He is not in foster with cats, however, he has seen them and does not appear to have a high chase drive. We may be able to rehome him with dog savvy cats and owners who confident in introducing dogs and cats.

Rico is very nearly housetrained as he has only had a few accidents whilst settling in to foster. He is comfortable to be left for short periods (although he has always had doggy company).

As he is still a pup he does chew.....9 times out of 10 he will chew his own toys however, temptation is never far away from the wandering eyes of a young pup!
He is an intelligent lad and has quickly learnt paw and sit. He will require further training walking to heel. He is very good on the way home once he has had a good run



Rico is excellent with people and very affectionate and loving. He is still very puppy like and does sometimes mouth when excited or over tired. His foster family are working on his bite inhibition and this will need to continue in his new home. Rico could be rehomed with dog savvy children over the age of 8 years.

And now for Rico's quirk.......he hates stairs
He may have had a negative experience in the past or merely not yet be confident with his balance heading downwards. Whatever it may be, he is not a happy stair user. His foster family are working on this, trying to create positive associations with him using the stairs with lots of treats and praise.

All Hope Rescue dogs are neutered, vaccinated, wormed, flea treated and microchipped prior to rehoming. A homecheck will be required, and you will need to come and meet the dog with your own dogs and family. Hope Rescue rehomes throughout the UK. A Pre-Home Interest Form should be returned to Hope Rescue.

Rico is still looking

Rico had a fantastic day yesterday at a Hope Rescue Meet and Greet and Pets at Home and loved all the fuss and kisses he got from everyone and all the treats from Kerry. He loved seeing so many dogs! Today he joined other Hope dogs past and present at a walk in Cosmeston.
