I think you'll find that Cassie herself wont have a problem with the lost puppies as she didn't actually give birth to them, usually bitches get depressed when they lose pups they have actually whelped.
As to what may be wrong I can't answer I hope she recovers well.

Hi Fudgeley I am not quite sure which bit you need help and advice with....

If the vet thinks the condition resulted in the loss of the puppies rather than that the absorption of the puppies caused the problem, it sounds as if maybe the bitch has some kind of metabolic disorder which made her deficient in protein and/or kidney disease . Only tests will tell.

She's in the best place they will watch her through night and next few day's if anyone can sort her out and help her through this the vets can. thankfully (i know it's still hard) it will only be her humans who will feel the "pain" of the lost pups not Cassie. wishing her all the best please pass on our thoughts and best wishes to your friend. xx

Thankyou all for your sympathetic responses.I will pass them on to my friend and try and get an update today before we break up for half term.I know my friend through the playground at school. How many of us have friends we see briefly every day at pick up/drop off but never see outside that environment. Not knowing over the hols will be hard.......

:smt010 Sad news for those who have missed the other thread.

Cassie was PTS today. The owner and the vet decided it was the right decision as it seemed there would be long term health issues........run free Cassie, find your pups sweetheart.
