This is a copy of post from Mirk is coming home thread. Sorry to confuse and duplicate, but I didnt want anyone to miss the update.
Well, once again, we have great news here about Mirk.
Following Mirks prostate problems, he has been back to the vet and his prostate has shrunk from "bigger than an orange" to the size of a tangerine, following his anti testosterone drug. I have never seen a vets face transform so wonderfully as she put her finger up his bum to feel the change
. My vet is absolutely thrilled though still cautious that there still may be more going on.
Now permanently on metacam and having had an implant which will last around a year to combat the testosterone, and with such a massive reduction in prostate size, Mirk is a totally transformed dog.
He also put on another kilo in weight since his last vet visit, making that 2.5 kilos's since the anti testosterone injections.
It has been nearly three weeks since he has wee'd in the house so we can only assume that his prostate problems where a major contributor to his wee'ing. He is also drinking a lot less, indeed it is more or less the same as the others he just keeps getting brighter and brighter and brighter.
Yesterday, for the first time, he suddenly decided to show an interest in sheep again, well lambs atually and he took off without me to go to see them. After much yelling (his deafness has not improved much) and a quick sprint from me, I managed to avert the lamb/ewe/dog meeting and all was well. I can see I will have to watch him now with sheep with him being deaf and all. He might be a once great sheepdog, with no harm intended, but the sheep and sheeps owners might not know that!
Mirk remains the happiest, most contented, loving dog I have ever known and he has won himself a huge number of fans. Everyone loves him and he gets more strokes than any of the other dogs at work.
He now has a job too
He does the socialising of puppies at work and he is really good at it! He wanders about wagging his tail and sayong hi to everyone and only if the puppies get really pushy and jump on him, does he get cross. Filming for our upcoming behaviour video has now commenced and it seems that Mirk will be playing a major role as he is so good at "happy, friendly" communication.
So, from sheepdog, to filmstar it is for Mirk. He trully is a star!
Thank you for listening
