Oh okay, thanks!
That was something that always bothered me about rescues tbh, but if I saved all the money that would have gone to a proper breeder and then all the jabs/neutering etc etc, I should be fine getting a rescue!
Would really love to rescue a dog

To be honest I have had a good think about it today and have pretty much decided to just get a rescue dog instead

A few factors played into this, and I think it is the right decision. As when I am settled I will have time to go round rescues and find the right one etc

When I move out I want to get another dog.
This will probably about 4-5 years down the line.

I don't want (or expect) to decide on one exact breed just yet. But would like a few options I can research.
At the moment I would be researching most breeds...

I have no idea what will happen in the next 4-5 years, but as it stands I will be living on my own, small house and small car.

I would loveeee a big dog, but possibly after having moved out into my own small place, a big dog may not be the best plan?

I want something that isn't too headstrong (rottie, akita etc), but i can feel safe when walking/in the house on my own. (GSD is an option).

But then again, if I have a small place and small car I might be better getting something like a cocker spaniel or something.

I know a lot will depend on money/circumstances at the time, but I love researching so would like a few breeds to focus on just now

I was just curious how you decided on the right breed for you?

Some of my options at the moment are:
Cocker spaniel
King Charles spaniel
Labrador
GSD
Boxer
Hungarian Vizsla (sp?)
Miniature Schnauzer
etc etc...

Ideally... I would like something taller than alfie (not hard ), not too head-strong, would bark at the door, not too much drool
Then on one hand I would say, is small enough for a small house/small car (practicality wise I suppose this should be a main one), but then I love bigger dogs too..

So..... how did you decide, and can any one help me?
have u ever consider a mastiff (they drool) but are great dogs, loveable, protective, listen well, don't need too much exercise. I have a 4 year old mastiff with 2 labs, labs have too much energy.

Well good on you

Are you going to any specific breed rescues? Or local rescues?

Rescues are the best, they have so much love to give.

I have a list of requirements.
Must be big
High excersie needs as I walk miles.
Must be dog friendly
Must travel well in car
Not destructive
Confident
and preferably not to bright
I have a german wirehaired pointer at the moment who ticks most of those boxes and I am pretty sure I stick with pointers of some type now as they really suit me.

Thank you

I will just go to any rescues I feel like and won't have a breed in mind, will just go and see who fits the bill
Might end up with a nice mash up

I really like pointers actually, but their energy would be too much for me I think

I will be back in 5 years to see your pics of your new pooch!

Seriously i'm glad we persevered and got a dog that needed to be rehomed, it took a bit longer to be approved as we had to pass a home inspection and build up our existing fence. There are so many lovely dogs out there that need a loving home, and in our case as an added bonus, no potty training required!

Yeah you better check back!
I'd say it is a minimum of 3 years, but 5 is more realistic

I am really excited about getting a rescue actually haha, and being in my own place, there will be no rush for how long it takes

I always think that if you walk up and down the kennels in a rescue - you will find the dog you need and want - if I had the money and time and space last year, I'd have brought home a lab and a one eyed mastiff - they were perfect and lovely walkers.
