I'm wary of Rawhide chews ever since one of my dogs choked on a large piece he had broken off. I prefer to give Marius sterile meat-filled bones.

He can break little pieces off it, but will spit out the large bits for me when I tell him too, as I've done it since he was a pup!

As for nylabones, I thought he'd have been fine with one of those as a puppy, but his jaws were so strong he managed to break a piece of it. It was binned after that.

I guess the safest thing to do is only give them these things supervised.

Pizzle is smelly, fairly tough and has been a big hit with every dog I've known

I would never touch Rawhides, you have no idea what animal they come from and with what chemicals they have been treated and they have caused many blockages.

Raw bones
Nylabones
Stagbars

So where would I find these things? Lexie is over 50 lbs and is a boxer... which is best for her? She is 4 yrs old and we adopted her about 3 weeks ago...Trying to find what she likes. She loved the Greenie i bought yesterday but that only lasted about 2 minutes.

Pizzle is known as bully sticks "over the pond"

Not sure about shops but you can buy deer antler (that's what Stagbars are) off Ebay

Raw bones, you could try local butchers, abbatoirs, someone who hunts, etc.

I used to give Cain rawhide but it didn't agree with him and used to give him a squitty bum. I used to give him really big presses bones which last longer and can only get small bits off. I once gave him a cigar shape and he swallowed it half whole then threw it up, very scary I don't feed rawhide any more.

Agree with the above, good alternatives are

Raw bone
Nylabone/Sporn Marrowbone (have edible centre to encourage chewing)
Stagbar chews
Pizzle
Big paddywhack pieces
Dried cow throats
