OK...
He is still in the hospital on a drip to rehydrate him. They need to do more bloods as well, but he should be able to come home tomorrow.
He has an enlarged liver, but no sign of a mass (thankfully).
I think it`s probably an infection, possibly with underlying problems (incipient Cushings? reaction to NSAIDs?)
The vet shouted at me about his weight but considering he`s been that weight for 4 years with no ill effects I`ll take that with a pinch of salt. Yes, he`s plump - but not obese.
I know they`ll tell me to put him on Hills l/d but I`ve looked at it and am not impressed.
so...

anyone know what I can feed him to promote liver function?
I know Milk Thistle, B vitamins and possibly E vitamins are good.
How about brown rice?
Is tripe OK?

Poor Shamus but at least no mass was found.

Pereg is on SAMe and Milk Thistle to help protect her liver because of being on Pb and so far all her liver function results have been fine. Next one due in a couple of weeks...

She also has Taurine which is, I think, more to help her central nervous system than her liver, plus a slew of vitamins and supplements, but those were added after I changed her onto raw, to make sure she has everything she requires.

The main things for her liver function though are SAMe and Milk Thistle.

(((hugs))) to both you and Shamus. xxx

I take milk thistle for my liver. I didn't know dogs could take it.

So pleased to hear Shamus is going to be ok, and tell your "shouty" vet that you have a large friend who will come and sort him out if he's not less rude.....
