Erm, I've never heard of that happening to a GSD in a crowd so why would it be any different for a rottie or dobe.

Sorry but in my opinion security work does pose a particular risk to tails.

If a Dobe had to be sent into a crowd for dispersal you can't tell me that someone's not going to try and grabs it's tail.

To me the whole system is area about face. It's ok to dock a tail if it might get scratched by a bramble or two (note hounds for fox hunting never had their tails docked), but it's not ok to dock a tail if it stands the higher risk of getting broken by going after troblemakers and law breakers.

erm, I've seen gsd's with their tails raised almost over their back, they'd be in exactly the same situation as nigh on every breed when in a heightened stae of arousal!

thank you colin,
the tail on dogs used in this field of work can be used like a direct lever to the mouth, dogs have been swung by tails in the past had them broken right at the spine all sorts, it just gives people a handle to lift the dog and hurt it,

well it should not be up over its back, yes there can be a curve upwards at the end of the tail, but rotts and dobs go up from the base of the tail, if a GSD's tail goes up from the base well you bought a poor example of a gsd,

if some moron wants to swing a dog by its tail, I doubt he gives a flying f*ck whether it is high or low set
Arguments for docking just doesn't hold water!

Absolutely
Mastiffs have the same tail carriage as Rotties but they don't dock working Mastiffs
