It is lovely reading where everyone lives.
My nearest town is Malvern, very small but famous for many things, The beautiful hills, Malvern Water, Morgan Sports cars, Sir Edward Elgar , The water cure, lots of Boarding Schools and the former RRE (now QinetiQ) where RADAR was invented along with many other inventions.
Malvern is a pretty little town with its own theatre and many beautiful, old buildings .

My town? It's too small to be called a town, really! It's about a mile away, and it's called "St.Margaret's Hope". (Hop is the old Norse word for "bay". Nobody is sure where the "St. Margaret" comes from. It could be either a reference to the "Maid of Norway", or to a small, ruined chapel near the shore. You pays your money and you takes your choice. It used to be a moderately important fishing port, in the old days, now it's the terminus for the "short sea" ferry route, operated by Pentland Ferries . When the ferry unloads, the main street is virtually unpassable.

It's so small that everyone knows everything about everybody else, and what they don't know, they make up - you know the sort of thing!

It has three pubs, a small sub-post-office, three shops and a Michelin starred restaurant. There are only 1000 or so people on the whole island, so how the pubs keep going is beyond me!

This is the waterfront. Busy, innit?

You can see a bit more of the general area if you look in my profile and visit my wee website - the Border Boys are there, too!

No library, no swimming pool, no cinema, no shopping mall, just a "one-horse dorp" - but there are lots of ponies on the surrounding farms.

It's so quiet, you can hear a sparrow f*rt at 1000 yards!

(possibly the loudest thing in the area?)

P.S. Snorri Mansions is at the top of the hill in the background of pic 2: we look out over this lot. You can't see our house, because it's too damn small to show up !

Hi Snorri,
some of the houses there remind me of oor place in Bothwell.
It name is White's Store and is 170 years old.
Tasmania is quite small compare to the other States of Australia, in Sydney(which was my home town)you could drive two hours and still be in the Sydney metro area but down here if you drove those same two hours I would be in Lauceston up in the northern part of the state. When my husband aunty came over from scotland she wanted to go to the ROCK up in NT she couldn't believe how long it would take to get there.
Will find some sites of Tassie and put the links up
cheers
