To begin with yes, then once a bit of training and control has been done and you have confidence in your dogs behaviour you have to let them mingle with other dogs.
I'm gonna get it in the neck for this one but here goes.
Since the fracas at the SKC champ show 2 years ago when the mals went berserk I've always had reservations about this group of dogs ie: the husky, mals, sibes type.
Terry wotsisname had to abandon the ring and he's one of the top judges in the UK, one lady even had her clothes torn to bits.
To me they're not that far removed from Arctic wolves, they still have that wildness about them and there's not been enough time for it to be bred out IMO.
I've seen a lot of heated debates on the forum but I've kept well away.
A fable :
The frog and the scorpion are at the rivers edge.
They need to cross but the scorpion can't swim.
The frog offers to carry the scorpion on his back.
Half way across the scorpion fatally stings the frog.
He asks the scorpion why he did it and that they would both drown, the scorpion replied that it was in his nature to do it.
I have not read all the post in this thread but had to respond to this post, I was exhibiting at this show with MY MALS, yes there was one particular dog that behaved outragously and did attack another dog in the ring, no ones clothes were torn apart??? the ring was NOT abandoned, the dog in question was taken out of the ring and judging commenced, I have never heard so much twaddle and scarmongering like this before,"
Since the fracas at the SKC champ show 2 years ago when the mals went berserk" if the breed is such an aggressive breed, having such a rumpus going on would have caused bedlam, all the dogs would have tried to get involved, yet they didnt, in fact one of my dogs was in the next class and behaved inpeccably, ridiculous statment...
Back on topic... I personally would not have my dogs running in front of me with with a bike, I prefer to have them alongside me on a springer, unfortunately not everyone can allow their dogs off lead, sadly this is a fact especially with dogs such as sibes and malamutes, simply because they can and do often throw a deaf ear, and go off on a run, and when these breeds decide to run, you would have a hard time trying to catch up to them, consequently they end up running so far they can end up on roads before the owners have a chance to get to them, so to ensure they get the exercise these breeds require many owners run their dogs with bikes,
