This is where the majority of dog bites on children happen with grandparent/aunties & uncles, friends dogs etc.
As it's been said if the dog has not been socialised with children you cannot expect it to behave in the correct manner when put in a situation with them - but that doesn't mean to say they can't after correct training and a dog is never to old to learn.
All is needed is some training and to show the dog how to behave around children.
If they are not prepared to do this for the sake of their grandchild then imo they are obviously not worthy of seeing him.
Please don't be put off by the dogs reactions as not all dogs behave this way and as said with the correct training any dog can be a childs best friend

P.S I have 3 dogs - 2 Labs & 1 Rottie and I have a 2 1/2 year old daughter and I am pregnant and due in just over a week so I know it can work
