file sharing isnt illegal . in itself the illegal part is sharing stuff which is copywrited however is .. the computer crime unit , the fbi and people like warner bros disney ect are monitoring download sites and prececuting site owners and habitual downloaders .

as i buy all the new releases legally .. many of which i will never use i dont mind sharing anything with anyone . i have an unlimited download account . so i get everyting in case anyone wants it anyway ,

File sharing as such isn't illegal. The problem is when you share copyrighted material.

For example it's perfectly legal to share copies of Linux because it isn't copyrighted. Sharing 'The Combine Harvester' or last weeks episode of "The Bill", or the latest version of Photoshop is illegal and could be very expensive.

It's not particularly difficult to spot someone who's sharing either. So easy in fact that you just need to know someones IP address (and having an IP that changes frequently doesn't make it any harder)

Shareing files is illegal but replacing songs/tracks that you once owned and you are replacing is not as you are allowed to make back up copies for your own use.
