So do you accept that there are huge problems with breathing in both pugs and pekes?
Do you accept that these problems are due to breeders trying to make the faces as flat as possible in order to provide what the show judges were/are looking for?
Do you think that a healthy dog should need an ice pack to rest on whilst competing?

BM said the Peke was unhealthy , asking what she meant is not akin to wearing blinkers or unwilling to see any problems..
All well and good. However, haven't many of the health problems complained of been exacerbated (or perhaps even created?) by judges placing exaggerated individuals in the show ring, and then show breeders breeding for these exaggerated features?

But haven't many of the problems with the breeds in question been bred in when show judges have started giving places for exaggerated and judges have started to choose and breed for more exaggerations in features

http://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/cgi-...em.cgi?id=2089

Of course, we won't know until after the screening

I don't see that as healthy a dog doing nothing more strenuous than walking up and down then sitting for photos

Not really fit for any function if he needed cooled down in those conditions

What function were Pekes originally bred for?

Just spent time checking it out---and I am right. Part of their function was to walk.

Is there really any doubt that there are some breeds where exaggerations have gone so far that they are detrimental to their health?

I can't find the new breed standard (but have only taken a cursory look), but from that link it does look as though it is going to be a springboard for a brighter future for the breed
