Fortunately my dogs sleep together as a pack. I am NOT a pack animal nor a dog, so both they and I are perfectly content to sleep apart and appear to thrive on it.

If you want your dogs to sleep with you that is your choice, if you do not that is also your own choice, neither decision determines your worth as a dog owner!

There times when I think it's appropriate and will allow Missy on the bed and times when I think it's inappropriate to be on the bed.

If I had a small dog it might sleep in my bed but Bertie is just too big. Plus my room is taken over by dog stuff any way. My bed room door being right by the front door and there being not many places to put stuff in our house, it's handy to leave stuff in there like dummies and dog treats and even drying pheasant wings by the heater Bertie would have a fabulous time (we have a half upside down house).

a guy i was seeing not long ago allowed his jack Russell to sleep in the bed and no disrespect but i found it very odd and incredibly unhygienic, to me it was along the lines of your dog licking itself and then licking your face and made me cringe everytime i got into bed x

Unhygienic? Rubbish.A dog that isn't kept clean isn't being properly looked after.
Too much hair on the bed?Groom them more often.
Farting?Change their diet.
Snoring? So what, they're never as loud as people and you don't banish your partner from the room for it do you?
Bed hogs?As with all undesirable behaviour teach them not to.
Dominance issue?Balderdash. If your dog tries to bite you in bed he'll bite you any time.
It's alien to a pack animal to be denied access to its pack sleeping area.
Wow!! I LOVE your post, especially the final paragraph!!

Great post!!

Dogs are not unhygienic, they are animals. They are generally very good at keeping their personal bits clean!

Unless you wash your hands and clothes every time a dog has had contact with you, I can't see your problem tbh.

My dogs don't lick me when they are in bed anyway
