what an interesting thread ,i'de never thought about it before, and not being a breeder ,dont have much to add ,but when we had a yorkie many years ago we did consider breeding her,and so se about reading up (which is what changed our minds )anyway i do remember reading that one breeder on seeing his first ever yorkie litter ,thought that his little girl had gone stray(stupid man)and dstroyed the whole litter can you imagine the distress that poor dog must have felt ,all because of one mans stupidity, sorry it still makes me angry just to think of it .

I really didn't think it was the same dog
I have heard people say that they went to get their new English Setter pup and they were sure it wasn't the one they had chosen as it had changed so much just in the few weeks since they had seen it. Its so fascinating when you breed a litter to observe the gradual changes, not just physically but with regards to colouring also

Aww, bless its little heart. I'm still not sure how they know what colour they will be, does it show immediately?

I'm dreading my first litter of poodles, theoretically they'll all be black I'm going to have to work out how to tell them apart!

Hope her mum does'nt mind me using this, Hi Elaine
Wow, they really change too, its quite nice in a way that you don't really know what they will end up like. Unless, of course, you really, really wanted one with a mask and it faded as the dog got older.
