as the others have said, the vet is the best to diagnose but as for your question of will the ligament damage show up in the x-ray, my girls didn't,infact the specialist thought my vet had gone insane sending us to see him as when he looked at her x-rays he said everything was o.k so he x-rayed her again himself, again everything o.k,he examined her by manipulating her joints and he said things also seemed o.k,he had walk up and down the stairs and she seemed a picture of health,he went ahead and operated and he was shocked to find that about 10% of her cruciate ligament was working, the rest had ruptured or been torn(i didn't attend with her).sometimes with very strict rest i.e crate rest only out for toilet breaks and meals the damage can be corrected without surgery.
good luck at the vets.

Can't add any more to what has been said already, just wanted you to know I've also got everything crossed for Loki for tomorrow when he goes to the vets. Hopefully, with the rest he's had over the week-end, he might be heaps better anyway? Let us know please how you get on and good luck.

What breed is Loki? Some are more prone to certain conditions than others.

Ok, were his parents hip scored? Did you see the certificates? Personally I dont think its cruciate ligament, if it was he would hold his leg tight up underneath, not drag it. If it is HD you must inform the breeder.

Best of luck with him.
Dawn.

My GSD had ACL surgery June 06 and yes if it was the cruciate he would be holding the leg up and not draging it.

I hope everything will be OK and that it is nothing serious although I must admit it doesn't sound good.

PS this is a very good board for information and support for anything ortho with dogs. If he has to have any type of surgery for his leg, this site can give you all sort of support and information. www.orthodogs@yahoogroups.com

Took loki this morning he was taken in for xray. They hve just called.
Nothing they can see is wrong think its growing pains or something to do with not enough calcium in his diet.

They have found something in his stomach 3 inches long and metal. ????
I have no idea what that is so the are removing it now.

And then when he is over all this they can give him something for his leg.

Thats what must have been wrong with him the other day with the jelly poo.
I can't wait to find out what it is he has eaten.

OMG that's horrendous!!!????? I did say that severe stomach pains can cause them to stretch out a back leg, but blimey, I didn't expect to hear this!!! Got everything crossed for him that all will be fine when he's got rid of whatever it is in there. Please let us know how he is later on, we've all got everything crossed for you. He couldn't possibly have swallowed something that big - surely???? I wonder if it got "staked" into him somehow - piece of wood perhaps??? Oh dear, poor little thing, you must be worried sick!
