Poor you. It's terrible. Glad you got some relief, hope it stays that way until you see a dentist.

Co-codamol at the strongest dose. Or, if you have them, Ibroprufen and paracetamol together (you don't have to space them out - they are two different drugs and can safely be taken at maximum dosage together and far more effective that way).

And they do say that they work quicker if taken with either coffee or cola.

Mean to say, when I used clove oil it burnt my mouth and it was really sore!

Apparently Corsodyl mouthwash can help, too. Might be worth a go.

Thankyou all of you. I really appreciate you taking the time to answer. Today the swelling has gone down quite considerably Definitely the metronidazole has helped although I do feel a little queasy on it! But anything is better than that horrendous pain!
Thank goodness the dentist is tomorrow.....although I'm dreading it, I'm gonna be so pleased to see him!! Thanks again guys...much appreciated xxxx

The reason I said space them out is to provide continous pain relief, as in your body will never be without some of at least one of the drugs in it's system - if you take them both together after about 4 hours the pain comes back with a vengenance as they both wear off at around the same time.........

Hi Zoe, I've been watching this thread since yesterday and cannot really add to it other than to say that having a route canal treatment is a doddle after suffering with an abscess!! I've had so many abscesses and unfortunately none of them burst, they were all contained within the route and I know the pain is unlike anything else!!!
Don't have aspirin or alcohol as both have a blood thinning symptom.
Good luck for tomorrow - I'm sure you'll be fine
