I don't think I've changed my preference, I know I am now swayed towards Gundogs more than Pastoral but I still like my BC's, I used to really love merled breeds/colours, but now I prefer the classics (still love merles) I've always admired the darker GSD's Like all black but tan legs (my Uncle had one) but now I quite like Sables (Moobli - your Zak is a stunner - it's all your fault! )

I always had a thing for bull breeds, but my thing is a little less for them now - not due to the media though..but I would never turn one down if the chance arose but I am more a gundog girl now..

Never liked Shih Tzu's or smaller dogs, now I don't mind, dog sitting Missy I realised how hilarious they can be.

Urm I wouldn't say it's changed a lot, I do like all dogs, but am swayed more towards others.. if that makes sense..

Brilliant posts everyone. I have really enjoyed reading them. It seems that the majority of us, for one reason or another, have had our preferences changed over the years. Very interesting!

Mine hasn't really changed as I still like gundogs but because the job that I need them to do, the breed has changed. I never thought I would ever own a pointer, or a setter. I always thought it would be spaniels, spaniels and more spaniels lol.

I have always wanted a small lurcher, ever since I got my first working ferrets but never thought I would own a border terrier, let alone two.

I think the way my life has changed, has mirrored what breeds I have got. If I didn't need a dog for counting, I wouldn't have a setter, although I would have a gwp.

I must admit that I really didn't like dogs at all 12 years ago! But that all changed when I met Graham who had Bessie (RIP), a beautiful and very timid Welsh Collie. She then had Otis who we still have (lab collie x). I was smitten with collies and crosses.
Now however, since we had a phone call about a lurcher girl desperately in need of a home (who we adopted along with another lurcher), I've become totally obsessed with sighthounds!! I just love them...especially greyhounds and lurchers.
I'm also a little obsessed with staffies since we adopted our lovely baldy Coco. She's adorable.
So yes, my tastes have changed lot but I still love any dog, but greys will always be special to me

Yes! I always imagined if we had a dog it would be a GSD (OH and I grew up with them) or a Springer.
Then along came Maggie, who made me fall in love with small dogs.
A GSD or a Springer would have been a total disaster in our house!

Yes, I think my tastes have changed a lot for different reasons When I first got Molly, I wasn't at all fussed about whether or not my dog could be let off lead. Having now had a dog who can't be let off lead, I realise how much this restricts you & how much more stressful it is! I now find myself favouring breeds that are typically known for having good recalls (Whilst MinPins aren't exactly ).

I also find myself favouring bigger breeds more now as opposed to when I first got Molly and really loved toy breeds. I still love toy breeds and there are plenty I would love to have but I also really like larger breeds now.

My OH coming into the picture has also changed things because I can't just get the breed I want. He doesn't really like small dogs (Although he could have fooled me with the way he dotes on Molly) and prefers bigger breeds so there is that to take into account too.

One thing that hasn't changed is my love of rescues

I have always liked the shaggy looking dogs - goodness knows why because they are such hard work to keep well groomed. But in all honesty I just adore dogs, and there are very few breeds out there that if one landed on my doorstep I would reject

I have always loved BCs and GSDs, and still do. I used to love Boxers, SBTs, EBTs etc, and I still do, but I don't see myself owning them now...

My love has always been for "big" dogs.

I've had Afghan hounds, Great Danes and Labradors.

I got my first Shiba about 20 odd years ago, having just lost my dane to bloat.

She stole my heart, and I swear there will always be a shiba in this house.

I don't think I could go back to a large breed, or a boisterous breed (unless I get an oldie) as I just cannot handle them any more.

In fact, looking at Hev's Chihuahuas makes me want an even smaller dog

There are breeds I used to love when a lot younger which I would never consider owning now and I cant think of a single reason why I liked them in the first place! I wont name any of these breeds for fear of upsetting some members.

My taste nowadays is for athletic dogs, still capable of performing well in their original function or in dog sports.
