Chips do move in some cases and even cease to work in others. It is not 100% foolproof (but then nothing is) or risk free (but then nothing is).
Ive heard altho dont know authenticity's of it, that moving chips can be absorbed into the body & become unreadable.

Harvey's has been checked since it moved on 2 susequent years & registered, so we are lucky in that sense.

I have heard of dogs that have had to get 2nd & of one dog (Boxer) who needed a 3rd chip.

Hmm.....mine are not chipped (other than the ones done before they came to me).

If it was compulsory I would get it done, but I kind of object to being called a bad owner because I have not had mine done.

Yes having a chip does not absolve you from having a legally compliant ID tag (as of course most people do not have a reader)

Teagan is chipped, but Kingsley is not.
Don't think i'm a bad owner for not having him chipped either! (I even do microchipping myself!)

Yes but tags come off ect, I'm not saying if you don't have ur dog chipped u are a bad owner but I do think that animals should be chipped. The amount of strays that are picked up each year is crazy

Yep - and how many people will scan under armpits?

Twice my friends dogs chip has been removed and replaced

But that is down to the person who scans we are told to scan nose to tail more than once. Mine cats have been returned on their chips so yea I do think it better fan tags

That is one advantage of a yearly check
Up at the vets, you can ask them to scan the dog to make sure chips still in place & registering
