For me, I guess it has to be Great Danes. I think the number of hours they sleep is proportionate to their size!!!

Im sorry if this is a thick question.... but does lurcher and whipet come under the greyhound category? Or are they completely different breeds? I know nothing about them and just wondered if they were couch patatoes too.

My lab cross coli was a real couch potatoe, he had that kind of face and eyes that you could just snuggle up to and tell him all your secrets

..where am I going with this
Sorry but totally disagree with this and all others that say greyhounds!

My greys can spend at least 5 minutes every day going from one couch to another Of course they may have to rest in between one couch and the next on their beds but thats only to be expected ! The couches are at least 5 foot apart and its absolutely exhausting have a token paw to get the blanket in the right place

Yep greyhound have to be the most lazy of breeds gotta love em for that

Well whippety things are a breed and sighthounds so yep pretty much like greys IMO short bursts of energy and then sleep it off. Lurchers are a cross breed sighthound x working breed so very much depends on the cross and which ever parent they get their temperament from.

My lurcher is quite greyhound like in that he can spend all day lazing around but is more inclinded to get excited when out and does like to 'play' a little bit more when at home - he will play with toys, rag his shoe etc etc.

Know what you mean about the eyes - but then I think no other breed has eyes with the depth of a greyhound (of course I may be a little bias there tho)

First thought was Greyhounds, aren't they meant to love ligging about all day?
Oooh, you've never met Dougal (who is currently snoring on the couch next to me - default position)...he'd take sleeping over a walk any day..

I have a lurcher and a grey and they sure are 40 mph couch potatoes, they can do a 5 mile walk one day with lots of zoomies and will sleep 20/7 the next as long as they can snuggle with you on the sofa !

So was I and I have a Staffie, I have the little whirlwind bouncy version, who even fidgets in his sleep, his little legs are always going as he huffs and puffs on his dream adventures. He's lovely though even if he does love to chuck his kong in my face if I try to have a doss on the sofa

I would have said greyhounds only from what other people have said about them.

I have never had a couch potato regardless of age and currently my Saluki and staffie x are no exception. We do have a routine as I work in the mornings and they tend to go out at the same times every day (morning, noon and late afternoon) and regardless of weather they are always ready to remind me it is 'walkies' time. The noon walk is the longest - usually a few miles and my nearly 12 year old staffie never seems to get out of breath. I am sure she could walk for 10 miles and still not be tired. Hopefully my next dog will be more of a couch potato as would love to have either a whippet or grey but what's the betting that I will end up with the only grey/whippet on the planet who is not a couch potato.

Pippy likes to wake up, eat, go to the loo, then go straight back to sleep again. After 7pm she can be horizontal for literally hours. She does however magically spring to life whenever the bin or dishwasher opens (she tries to lick it - yuk).
