Just adding my opinion as i hadnt noticed the thread before, but as you are putting your opinions Out there
on other threads i thought i would see where my opinions may be wanted.

That aside the question clearly says "a basic level" not Alevel

So no, 4 commands only is not very good,
By 8 weeks, my pups know
Name
sit
down
back (stand & walk backwards)
Twirl
pivot
touch
get it
leave it
come
with me
this way
wait
watch me

at least

very useful for backend awareness. For a dog to use its whole body, to think , & listen.
ANY training is good USEFUL if the dog enjoys it because of the bond you get!

Jols, in the next few months you are going to encounter lots of perfectly normal problems with your dog as he grows up and pushes the boundaries. The more work you have done with him in the meantime the easier it will be to resolve these problems. When he hits adolescence you will need a lot of help and support as an (obviously) inexperienced owner.

Mock Mishflynn at your peril!!

Interesting.

I personanly only think you need two commands to get by

A recall command and a remain still command (usually down) as this allows you to pretty much control the dog whatever.
E;g get it back and keep it still.

I have no objection to a dog knowing lots of commands but think there is a difference between a dog knowing lots of commands and being always obedient to them and a dog knowing commands but only doing them when conditions are right!

I would only consider a dog trained in a command when it does it regardless.
