In laws have a small one of those in the dog drawer I always thought it was a funny odd shaped choker, but it's too small for any of ours - so then I thought - it must be something of Marks that's been mislaid.

I don't ever think it's been used and OH didn't have a clue either of what it was. An "oi" or a clap of the hands normally stops mine. I find if I need to use sound aversives or get his focus back, like when he's knowingly stepping out of heel, I just use "oi" or "ah ah ah" and just tap my side..

Apparently this is something that is `taught` by Barkbusters.
I was talking to a behaviourist who described being called to a terrified JRT that had been subjected to this because it objected to them taking his food away so he wouldn`t get `dominant`.
She said she gets a lot of work after Barkbusters have been round.

I hate those damn things. Many years ago, I used something similar (a choke chain) and threw it at my dog. I was very stupid at the time - just doing what some dog book told me to do to train recall

I once saw a horrendous video of some fool teaching their dog to heel using a throw chain, it's probably still on Youtube somewhere.. it shows is a very confused, upset dog...trying to do the right thing but apart form anything else, being too confused by the owner/trainer/chain/timing/you name it. Sad to watch, really sad. It's like watching bullying.

Why the heck sites sell, use, recommend, them I don't understand - can only guess it's about bringing in the pounds and dollars....
