Not prepared to answer the questions then?

Bet you the link is to some kind of dubious shock collar 'research'----any takers?

Gnasher......... have you ever given a thought that instead of spending ALL your time on here blowing up your own ego, you took some of the time (considering as you say , you dont have much of it) to take your dog out and give him a little of it....i.e training.

You may even suprise yourself and find the dog responds to you , instead of having to be zapped into submission, because A, you are not giving him the time he needs, B, you are to intent on seeking attention for yourself.

Hi Gnasher
I hadnt planned on joining in but......;0)

Has the only change been that Ben is now wearing THE collar or do you feel that you and OH are being more consitant with how you recall and the rewards he gets when he does something right?
And......Do you foresee a time when Ben will no longer wear THE collar as his recall will be reliable enough?
He is a lovely boy BTW :0)

But so far, that is just not the case, and I really wish just ONE of you could be big enough to admit just for one teensy tiny second that we could be right.
You may well have achieved the result you wanted to with the pain you inflicted on your dog by using the e-collar.....but right?? Nope Sorry. IMO you will NEVER be right for putting your dog through this in the name of training.

I do foresee a time when he won't need to wear the collar, but for now he is wearing it but it is not being used, it is just a collar.

Rune: I am ignoring you, so don't bother to ask me questions.

I am off home now, will try and put up the link to the research. It is a .pdf file and I am not sure whether I will be able to post it on here, I may need to post it onto the forum itself.

Thank you btw Lionhound, he is indeed a lovely boy, his coat is just amazing, it is so soft and silky - he is the Hungarian goosedown of the dog world!! The birds are using it to line their nests in our garden.

Jackbox: wish I had the time to spend "all" of it on here! I come on in my lb, and just before I leave for home, and then sometimes when I get home. That's not all.

LOL---I see------I must have hit a nail on the head then.

Do carry on ignoring me, I won't stop asking questions just in case any one thinks that you actually do know something about dogs. It is only right that they should realise the extent of your ignorance

I am glad you know you plan to stop using the collar....to the first part of my post, do you think that you have changed anything else when dealing with Ben?

Gnasher said "Mish: had it occurred to you that OH may actually like my company? One of our more pleasurable activities is to walk the dogs together - we go for miles, and we talk about everything under the sun. Probably hard for you to imagine how anyone could actually CHOOSE to be with me, but I can assure you it's true "

AGAIN you are missing the point. Surely after your long drives, long stressful job etc & no walking in the week, i ASSUMED that youd be DYING to get out there by yourself WITH the dogs, to put abit back in what youve missed al week. So your walks are spent chatting to your OH for hours/miles.
My walks are spent with my dogs, I dislike walking with others because it disrupts me watching & interacting with the dogs

Anyone else see a pattern here?

Perhaps a Little less "chat" & a little MORE attention, then poor Ben wouldnt have had to endure the pain he did, & the mental pressure he endures with the vibrate now.

I had a lovely walk with my dogs today. I went to a local park where there`s a cafe - with the sun out it was packed with mums and toddlers and I was so proud of my dogs. They behaved impeccably, all offlead, ignoring boisterous children and being calm around nervous mums.
When I got my dogs they were both unsocialised. Shamus was frightened of people and Daisy was aggressive, so today proved what you can do with kindness.
Of course, I take them out every single day, and always do a few minutes training. I find those few minutes work wonders.

I HOPE that this works - on this website you will be able to access the .pdf file that I was talking about - it is a 200 page dissertation, but it is a scientific paper that at least some of you might find interesting.
