Got say that your a better Mum than I am Dad, because if one of my kids asked if they could use one of my cars, I would show them where the bus stop is.

They have got more chance of farting and landing on the moon, then they have of driving my cars.

my Dad was like that as well. The way I look at it is that I work for myself from home mainly, hardly use the car really, particularly since petrol went up. Walk the Girlies up to the market with their backpacks on for shopping or do it on the net. On the other hand Leon lives a good way from where he works and it would take twice as long on public transport there and back, and my car(s) are sitting outside the house. Should have given him the 4x4 really I think but with petrol being so dear I let him have my car, we are all wise with hindsight. Like I say the way I look at it is, that I don't really need a car every day, and he does, plus he comes over here and looks after my dogs for me whenever I need for a full weekend, swings and roundabouts really.
I also have to bear in mind that he will be involved in choosing The Home for me when I am old and decrepid and setting fire to myself, so am storing brownie points

Have to agree there Colin, the only time I have ever let any of mine use my car was when my o/h was abroad working and I was really ill and unable to drive and had to go to hospital. I was expecting him to be driving around in it for a day or two. But he surprised me by bringing it straight home and parking it outside my house I think sometimes you just have to be cruel to be kind so they learn to appreciate things more. It is hard but they don't seem to take you for granted then.

Feel for you Jane, how are you feeling today ? I never had that problem with Mark he didn't learn to drive. He use to finish off microwaves. Thank goodness for Asda and cheap electrical goods.
Michael on the other hand was a different kettle of fish, he had a scooter 1st one was stolen along with his parka I felt really sorry for him about that, that wasn't his fault.
He bought a new one and was always coming off and denting it and scratching it he was paying for this himself too. Then he learnt to drive, and borrow our cars mainly mine two have died since Michael was driving them, they were older cars and possibly on the way out, but it just seemed to happen when he borrowed them. The big Volvo has survived though and he has now left home and moved to London and uses public transport.
But I never stopped him he was always doing nice things and he is a good boy so didn't feel I could be mean and say no, or maybe I am just too soft.
Hope it doesn't work out too expensive or take too long to fix.

Obviously the lines have been buzzing between my 2 because my phone was very very quiet all night and this morning up to now. However, just had Leon on the phone now and he is taking the car over to a tyre specialist place that do alloys because there is a chance that it may be repairable. Apparently the brick hit the inside of the wheel and there is a dent in it, he says not a big dent, but then he would wouldn't he?? I said to him that maybe he had been very very lucky then, and he said well he didn't think so, but I just said well think what could have happened, you could actually be dead. He was apparently coming onto a dual carriageway when the brick 'appeared from nowhere' so was going quite slow, if he had been doing 70 or something I think I would have had more to worry about than an alloy wheel and tyre. Anyway this tyre place will check it all out for him to make sure there is no other damage, I am worried about my track rod ends because they could be a casualty as well

Hope the damage isn't too severe. You are right in thinking if he had been going faster it could of been a lot more than the car too worry about I know thats how I think too.
I must say I have noticed a lot more debris in the roads recently and it is sometimes hard to avoid it.

Aww June, I hope the damage is not as bad as you think.
I'm lucky ( at the moment) as none of mine drive yet! But then I'm still the 'Taxi' ! and none of them live at home any more!
Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

I think we tend to help each other more within our family unit as Leon's father ended up a violent alcoholic and we all needed to stick together to get through some really dreadful times. It is has just carried on really, and although I obviously wish this brick hadn't strayed invisibly onto a public highway I would still never let them struggle when I am able to help them. They are both very self sufficient in lots of ways, they have had to be as I had to work full time in a very stressful job for many years and they had to look after each other and cope with things that if I had been able to stay at home they wouldn't have had to. We do tend to rely on each other in lots of ways still, one of them being for transport should our own fail!!! No more news on the car front, as soon as I know the real damage you will!!!
Leon had a bonus due the end of this month, he is already resigned to the fact that he may have to buy me a new set of alloys and is looking at prices and feeling very depressed indeed
