I am very envious, i have for many years considered keeping chickens. The gardens big enough but not sure the neighbours would approve. I would also worry about foxes getting at them as we have a lot round here.

Even looked on the internet a few years ago and you could but an eggloo . They would bring the package to you, chickens, home etc and spend time showing you how to handle and care for them.

Bought some eggs the other day from our local inner city farm and they were the best eggs we have had in a long time.

I read it that way first time too Inca - She's actually being humourous but it doesn't come over as well in print as it would in a face to face conversation.

Bearing in mind all the work involved you really would have to be a loony to chuck the eggs away

Shiba - you are right to be concerned, around here all the farmers keep chickens, some try to fence them, some don't bother, either way they all loose dozens every year to foxes. Being Czech they just accept it, the concept of 'costing' their time etc. doesn't seem to enter their minds, probably why they are just 'scratching' a living

I aim to keep chickens when I leave home but my mum won't have them here

My aunt had ducks and we always used to get duck eggs

A friend of mine (animal trainer) has 10 clicker trained chickens

If you're not going to eat them then give them to the dog. They love them.
