I agree - build your own, lots of fun and you save a ton!

Here's my latest PC:

The bits

The Empty Case

Working On It

Done!

Presto!

The specs are:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6420
Asus P5B Deluxe (Motherboard)
2GB Geil Ultra DDR2 800MHz (4-4-4-12)
ATi Radeon X1650PRO 256MB
320 GB Seagate 16MB Cache HD
Pioneer 18X DVD
ThermalTake Soprano (case)

Means I can work a bit faster now

I've built loads now and really enjoy it. Not only do you save money, but you end up with a higher spec'd machine, because you know every componant going in it is is a quality product. Unlike 90% of PCs you buy, they use cheap componants, even tho they shout about specs such as the speed of the chip the size of the hard drive the graphics memory - all of which are pretty much a waste of money if they are cheap parts

I reckon I should start a super duper pc shop and sell super fast PCs to Joe public lol!

My OH has been/tweaking our pcs for years, the only down side is we have a whole shelf unit in the garage with boxes of spare parts on it, coz you never know when you might need them

The last time we bought a new pc was when we needed a whole new one and we went online to a company that lets you pic every bit you want in it. T'was very good value.

Stormey - I get my parts from www.microdirect.co.uk - they were about £100 cheaper than one of their (leading) competitors!!! My last two PCs (parts) were purchased from them. I recommend them without hesitation

i got a piece of software from McAFEE 3 yrs ago. it cost me £20 on line. it's called PC BOOSTER. great bit of software, it quadruples the speed of your hard drive, improves your boot-up speed, and speeds up your browser. if it's still available, go for it !

PS: just been on their site, can't see it, but there's BOOSTKIT available, for $19 us, that's only £10 !!
