A friend of ours owns a pet shop (the one in wife swap) he is good and know shis stuff, i was at the start of the year trying to get Ian back into it and maybe get our own... but its hardwork and he doesn't want to hassle of having to deal with the animals.

And then the competion starts, already one has had there windows and stuff broken... it makes you wonder who has been doing it.

Having a aquatic shop is ok as the fish no no different, we had our own for about 2 years and was doing great until other problems started so i told him to choose between me and the shop, so he sold up... then it was a shame to see it go down hill very very quickly.

No, never have... our pet shop friend doesn't sell them either and never would, he doesn't agree with anything like that.

When i meant animals i meant: rabbits, hamsters and so on, as they are hassle to mantain while running a shop... and they bloody stink not dogs

There was a women in Romford a while back selling dogs in her shop, they were coming from Hong Kong... out that way and she was selling them.

When the authorities went in there were dead dogs in freezers and so on, she was taken to court... but while waiting for the court date she was allowed to open up again.

Now how wrong is that, she should have been shut done then and there and should be never allowed to trade again.

I agree on no cats or dogs being sold in pet shops, but not on other animals.
If the owners/shop staff are responsibale, and the animals have adequate room, and are socialised, and are properly taken care of, I don't see anything wrong with it.
Animals are kept in cages/hutches at home most of the time anyway, so it's no different to being kept in the shop!

One of my best friends has a pet shop, I was dubious about her selling animals, but her animals have a lot of room, and handled daily, cleaned daily, and she doesn't sell to just anyone who walks in the shop.
People under 16 can't buy, and if she doesn't like the look of the person, she won't sell.
She also gives aftercare sheets for any animal, and has a policy that if you don't want the animal, to bring it back to her.
She also rescues for the council and police.

Sorry to go on, but not all pet shops etc are bad

The thing is with smaller animals like rabbits, hamsters and so on... they will never know any different for the rest of there lives tehy will live in cage of some sort, its just normal for animals like these to be sold in a shop...

Sounds like your friend is a very person women with all the rescues to do to

Its nice to see pet shop owners do stuff like that, it shows that they care... some traders are only in it for the money only and not the welfare of animals well being.

Luckily, there are some nice people around!
Been in some pet shops before, and walked straight out!
Wouldn't even buy food or toys from them!
