I don't resent paying a consultation fee at the vets, but £35 sounds a bit steep. Ours are more like £12.

Ooh that's who I'm with - with a 'no excess' policy - so I'll bear that in mind for the future!
Cheers xx

Yes its quite good isn't it - it used to be £9.45 but recently went up a bit Its great knowing when you need the vet how much the consultation is going to be because at the three other vets I have been to - none of them seemed to have a fixed fee and just charged what they felt like at the time and no receipt or invoice either

My newest vet charges about £35 per consultation!

It's funny that you started this thread, I was talking to a chap I know the other day and he told me that he was taking his dog to the vets the next day and then quite "matter of factly" told me that the vet charges £31.00 before anything else !

I said "WHAT" !! I couldn't believe it ! (I sound like Victor Meldrew don't I )

I told him to go to my vet, as he doesn't charge a consultation fee, just for what you may have to get.

He may change in the future and decide to charge, but at least at the moment he doesn't.

Mine charges about £18 for a consultation and does half the fee if a follow up is short or sometimes-dont charge.

Medication prices can be high though.

Thanks for your replies!

To be honest our new vet is lovely and really, really loved Loui and was really good with him. You know, gave him biscuits etc and did treat him as we would want him treated.

We will go back despite the consultation fee as we all felt happy with the vet!
