He is georgous but the early neutering would really concern me. I really do think dogs miss out on alot of necessary stuff when they are neutered so young. Bandit would still have his now if it wasn't for him humping every dog he came across. I'd always planned on neutering at 18 months but atleast he made it to a year.

Still that is a very handsome boy and I hope he finds his home soon.

A shame really. I can see why they do it but if they don't trust people to neuter as per their rehoming contract should they really be trusting them with a dog?

I know the early neutering is less than ideal but I think the issue should be taken up with the homes that promised these dogs a place for life then gave them up within months. Rescues can only do so much and I imagine places like the Mayhew have to deal with such a vast quantity of dogs when they're in a built-up area like London that doing early neutering to a) get dogs homeable more quickly and b) save themselves a bit of time checking out homes by immediately putting off anyone wanting to breed is probably what helps them save more dogs' lives. I can't criticize the practice when I'm not in a position to start a better rescue or offer to foster all these puppies at my own expense until they're older. Not ideal, but not the worst thing to do in the grand scheme of things either.

The have a vet clinic on site so its their own vets that do it ...
They must think the risk is worth it ...
They also do free staff and staff cross neutering ..

I do feel for rescues, I work in rescue myself and I truly understand the difficulties. I hate watching animals sit and wait to get their vaccinations and neutering done as it's another week in rescue when they could be looking for a home. I just worry about the possible behavioural ramifications of neutering so young which could in turn result in the dog being returned to the rescue later in life.

On a lighter note:

How on earth did they cope with a 4 month old shepherd puppy in a buster collar!?! (I'm assuming he had a go at his stitches, what puppy woudn't!)
