There was a case of a man being bitten by a bat in hampshire that had rabies, I think it's a different strain. The bat protection were worried when I said I had fished the bat out of the pool with no gloves on!

Poor woman but she should have taken precautions.

Only got this far but - same here! My first thought was - what will happen now re the no need for the rabies vac stuff when moving dogs from RoI to UK 'because both countries are rabies free'?

But I still wonder what constitutes an incident of rabies?
Does it have to be that an ANIMAL was found to have it? Or would a human in the country who had it count as a documented case of rabies?

It is not a second case. It is a second person tested for rabies, not a confirmed case.

The lady didn`t seek treatment in India, and when back in the UK didn`t tell the doctors that she`d been to India or that she`d been bitten - and neither did her relatives.
Which is sad because she stood a far better chance if it had been treated immediately.

As it is a human infected abroad there is very little chance of any animals here in the UK being affected & virtually no chance of human infection either.
