Dani I think he is doing well. He is an older dog and being a Staffie he will look sad because you don't want him too.

I think the muscle wastage is part if the issue he has been used to favouring that leg its a habit almost; I think you are very lucky he is not too bouncy and having the op say 5 years ago when he was full of vigour and hard to slow down; you need this to work so does he - I think he will iimprove as he realises he can use the leg. Speaking to the vet won't hurt but don't expect miracles recovery can take a while. As he gets out and about he will get better quicker.

I know NOTHING about TPLO ops, but given his age and relatively recent surgery I wouldn't be too concerned by that video. If he hadn't been putting any weight on the leg at all then that would be different, but to me he just looks like an elderly gent recovering from an operation!

It's difficult to remember exactly, but I think Saba wasn't too different after 3 weeks. I had to keep reminding her to use the bad leg. My vet said it was because her muscles were wasted....and there's the rub: you need them to rest, but want the muscles to rebuild.

As long as he's continually making progress I wouldn't fret too much. Hope the specialist vet is reassuring.

PS Bruno's lovely, and Saba agrees (she just watched the video with me)

Oh poor Bruno. It looks as if the foot on his good leg is turning in a bit? Do you think that's because he is compensating for not putting weight on the poorly one?

hi, Bruno is doing better, putting more weight down on his leg, I upped his rimadyl a little as suspect he wasn't confident about putting this weight on it, due to pain, so he seems a lot more content now and he has shown a lot more use on his leg. Thanks for all the help and hoping this is the start of his turnaround, it will be 4 weeks next week, so he can start having small walks, although no idea how I will be managing that with baby, section cut, and lola !! so wish me luck

That's good to read.

Best of luck with the walking. I was going to suggest a walking belt, but that's not an option for you yet.
