Yeah that's why I am thinking plastic clips + big dogs = bad plan

i think plastic clips work on a well trained dog who will walk nicely with the owner on or off lead, i have used them in the past with ty (no problems with them, but i also use head collars) but moved onto buckle collars with him, just because i saw one i liked, and then with xeva not much choice as she got bigger, she snapped her puppy half check (size small) when she was around 18 weeks, so we now use the medium, but then she has also snapped her halti that i bought for her after i left you (when we came through to meet you) about a month later, so i didnt really want to chance the plastic clip collars with her

Never used a half check so not sure really but that's how it is in my head lol
You can adjust it once it's on Rupe's is loose enough to just slip over his head easily but if he pulls it tightens enough that he can't slip it. A lot of people say the rings should easily meet when the dog pulls but if I had it that loose and Rupe reared backwards (which is what he does in a panic) it would just come over his head like a regular collar and he'd disappear over the horizon.

i did use a bridle leather collar for my dane with a buckle which was fantastic till he grew out of it, i then got him a wainwrights collar with a buckle and i have found it very strong. use to use a half check when he was a puppy until i got the dogmatic then had no need for the half check.

I have plastic clip half check collars

I don't know why I bothered getting funky designs as you can't see them when they're on because of the length of the neck fluff lol

My lot rarely wear collars but they have leather buckle collars for training and leather half check collars for walking.

I use a leather buckle collar, as I've found nylon adjustable ones tend to loosen by themselves, which is obviously a hazard. Never had a problem with the plastic clips though, and that's with a big strong dog. As long as it's a well made collar.
