Do you have a lot of people coming and going in the house? If she is nervous of strangers, can you not remove her before they come in?
Also, maybe a metal alkergy?

It normally only the one and he knows her but there is no gate/fence in the garden and i'm worried about her getting the kids that run around outside.

She actually has a matching harness which is a little big so i use it to go over her coat in the winter lol.
