Another couple of tips

1. Iron tabs - the ones they use for pregnant women - there is something in the iron that makes it taste repugment. I have a rescue who was starved and tends to like extra snacks and it is working on him. I start him on a human dose and once he stops the habit - lessen it, and then increase if I see the behaviour again. Only possible side effect - constipation - which you could always just increase the oil content of his food.

2. licorice - again same reason as above - but beware of loose stools

I'd be very wary of feeding liquorice to dogs. At best it's bad for them, at worst it's toxic (appears to be debatable as to it's toxicity). Either I certainly wouldn't feed it to your dog.
