This scares me. Should I get him re-tested then?

You should have the vets refer you to an expert so they can see what stage it is at and reassure you. Hope it works out OK for him xx
I hope Woody continues to remain unaffected.

I found out today that the dog saw the eye specialist again at the beginning of the month, and no further deterioration since his November and January checks. I also found out that he also has Corneal Lipid Dystrophy too. There was no mention of what grade the MRD is though. I have suggested a vet check just to rule out any other health/pain issues that may have caused him to behave so out of character, but it is unfortunately all out of my hands

Which organisation is training him as a service dog? I really don't think a dog that has MFRD and CLD should go into service as any kind of assistance/guide dog. It's not fair on the owner to build a bond and learn to trust the dog and to then have that partnership cut short due to something that is related to a known problem.

The thing that upset hubby most when his dog had to retire was finding out that they had known she had MFRD before she went in to final training and they still put her through. It really hurt him.

I would speak to whoever it is and say I had serious concerns about whether the dog should continue training etc etc.

I hope it gets resolved for you soon.

Do you have any indication that Woody might be having problems? If not, leave it for now and maybe discuss it with your vet at some point. If you do then get a re-test.

With Sabbie it was things like walking hubby into things if in dark or shady places, not wanting to go out into the garden alone at night, clinging to us more than she ever had done. The final clue that did it for the eye specialist was knowing that she had been drinking excessively (I kid you not!). They weren't too worried initially, she rolled over for a belly rub from the vet (she was a tart) and they queried why she had been clipped and had a scar. We explained the kidney/liver biopsy due to drinking loads. They then upped the panic level to get her tested cos of this SARDS she was diagnosed with. Who'd have thought drinking excessively and an eye condition could be linked?

Hopefully Woody will be fine and it will never be an issue for him.

Take care
