Hi Aligord - my lab started this at 18 months of age (now 5) - he too was an ex guide dog pup (like the one you mentioned) - he was diagnosed with canine idiopathic epilepsy and has been controlled with phenobarbitone the last few years. He is happy and healthy otherwise.
Just a note of caution - check that none of his foods contain rosemary as i found this out fairly recently that it can cause seizures in dogs if found to be epileptic. I had put my boy on Orijen as it was reviewed to be an excellent food (i still think it is excellent) but not for my lab as after a few weeks of being on it he had a fit (had not had a fit for two years) and nothing else has changed in his life except the food change. He is now on JWB turkey and rice and doing great.

Hope you get some answers soon

Hi, I am sorry to hear about oscar , but my puppy has epilepsy as well, it can be quite frightening but due to having a wonderful vet my little fellow is responding great to drugs, he is like a different dog. One thing that my vet was concerned about was that my pup may have eaten a lead ball ie sinker for fishing as he was so young to develop seizures and clusters of grand mal ones at that. All bloods came back ok all other test came back fine as well scans of the stomach proved nothing there either. After the medication started he is brillant, no more seizures and an active loving dog again. Hope oscar gets better, dont be to frightened if he seems to go to bite you after a seizure as he is probably disorentated and is unaware of what is going on , its fight or flight instinct.
