Bob
When I had my pekes and they had tummy trouble I used to give them boiled chicken minced with plain boiled rice and that always did the trick also I used to put a teaspoon full of arrowroot in their drinking water and that cured the problem try this with you little fellow and see if that helps it did for my dogs never failed to cure their upset tummies its worth a try and costs very little better than drugs

Very very strange he wont eat naturediet but will eat dry food, never heard that before. the problem lies when the dog becomes hungry, mine was fed dry before we sussed it out. Dont forget Compylobater is usually present in all dogs guts, so to be positive for that is not unusual.

A bit on compylobacter:

Dogs - Many infected dogs show no signs. Stress, the presence of another disease or other factors (e.g. pregnancy) may increase susceptibility to develop the disease. Diarrhoea (watery to bloody with mucus and sometimes bile-stained) lasting 5-15 days is usually how the disease presents, and it is most common in dogs less than 6 months old. Occasionally chronic diarrhoea can result - lasting for months, and sometimes there is an increased body temperature and an increased white cell (leucocyte ) count.
Doesnt sound like Bob, or what you describe, Id be inclined to get a second opinion. All the info I found said that symptoms only usually manifest themselves in puppies under 6mths.

Hi
Vet called to say that his result is negative to the campylobacter so at least he has been treated and responded to this.
But doesnt solve our problems - vet feels that he clearly has IBD, so oxytetracycline for a couple of months and see how he responds.

He is happyily eating his JWB lamb and veg this evening.

she said that its interesting how he is always better once on antib's. the oxy can be used longer term - trying this before steroids.

ANOTHER bad day - even worse... sick, eating grass, diarrhoea, pain (stretching, back legs and slight loss of balance).
He is not a happy boy and really worried - i speak to vet most weeks!
Is he allergic or is it IBD?

I feel we are going backwards not forwards.

Shall I try feeding him rice and tuna for 3 days to see what happens?

He is on JWB Lamb and Veg only.

Im exhausted with this little chap and just dont know what else to do.

Ask your vet for a specialist second opinion.

Etta was seriously ill with a food allergy, she was totally limp for a day or so and wouldn't do anything, was sick and had bloody diarrhoea.

She had swollen glands in her belly/intestine and a delicate tummy for ages.

It sounds ot me as if something more than just a poorly belly is going on.

You vet shouldn't mind.

Poor boy
Have you tried scrambled egg made with water not milk and cooked chicken or if you think he can't take chicken, try cooked turkey as this some times can be used if chicken causes a reaction. Have you tried a small piece of tripe uncooked, or cooked piece of white fish with the bones removed, just pop it in the microwave for a minute or so, what about a complan type of drink, try not to go to complicated, try to keep it simple, bio-yogurt might help, try a soya one just incase the dairy type is a bit much, or a plain people biscuit. I also found cooked potatoes helped. Give him small amounts little and often, dont be put off if he upchucks it up, just wait for half hour and give him some more, I really do feel for you as I have had all these problems with Denva my springer, he is now settled on natures diet and wholemeal biscuit from Foldhill. It took over a year to get Denva settled!! I had a lot of help from my vet, which stopped me going insane!! I did find that I had to stay with one thing and not give up if one thing didn't work and give him a little time to get used to it.
I hope you can get him well as it is no fun for any of you. You can pm me if I can by of any other help.

Hi
Girliebiker: which nature diet flavour do you give - i bought some fish, potato one today to try. Can he eat this alone as a complete meal each day?

Today he has eaten some rice and tuna, seems ok at moment. Will see what he is like tomorrow.
The welfare trust have said they would pay for biopsy (is that same as endoscopy?)

Thanks for all the tips

Hi, Denva has the rabbit and turkey, the lamb, and the chicken, we have had all the flavours, and they do have veg in there but I do try to alternate them so he has a change. He can eat it as a complete food. I think the thing is to get him to eat something and keep it down at the mo. Try to stay with one thing and give him a chance to digest it, just give him a couple spoonfulls every hour or so, it may take a day or too for it to settle and he may upchuck it, but try not to keep swapping and changing and trying different food. His tum might be a little ragged until he can get something to stay down. If his tum is empty and he is hungry he might well be sick a little until at last he will keep some food down and then you will feel that eureka moment!!!
Good luck and I hope Bob soon gets sorted xx

ps Naturediet is the one with the husky and westie on - http://www.naturediet.co.uk/

I suggested Naturediet, BorderBob said he had tried it and the dog wouldnt eat it! I think keep changing wont help at all, the dog needs a second opinion and a constant diet.
