Thanks everyone for your posts. we took Alfie to the emergency vet, and just like a child, perked up almost immediately we got there! However the vet checked him over and said it was probably something he ate that disagreed with him. (he's a bit of a forrager!)
I'm happy to say he is back to being the energetic ball of fluff that he was, and is now sleeping off a long walk.

my boy has that habit too, he is in a chronic condition at the moment and when we take him to the vet he makes us look like over worried owners :/

im glad he is fine, keep those skittles off the floor hehe
