My GSD is neutered and I just got the new puppy neutered. My Bitch has just come into season, so maybe that's the core of the problem? I'll be having her spayed in a few months....

Today the puppy was able to walk about and my GSD ignored him, baby steps but each day seems to be a bit better?

I really wish for this to work out. I don't want to rehome the new puppy. I'll feel a failure! He's such a lovely dog

xx

The bully and the staffie adore each other..but the GSD keeps going to attack him. The Staffie is scared and not fighting back. They go for walks together and he'll leave him be, with the odd bit of charging, but that's it. Inside the house They have to be in separate rooms. I'm doing everything I can to make my gsd feel totally secure abut his place in the pack with the new arrivel and that he's a good thing.

It took him about a week to relax with my new bully, but she was only 8 weeks old. It's now been 2 weeks and he still wants to attack him.

Please help????
The GSD could well be attacking the Staffie BECAUSE he is scared. We had this situation with Tai and Ben when Ben first came to live with us. He would tend to snivel in the corner, and Tai several times attacked him - never hurt him, but pinned him down and threatened him. It was very upsetting, because Tai has never been like this, but Ben luckily decided he had had enough, and they had 2 or 3 very serious fights during which Tai got bitten twice, and on the last occasion Ben got bitten. All is peace now, Ben has stopped snivelling, Tai has remained in charge and they are the best of friends.

It is very upsetting to watch a dog being bullied in this way by another one, but unless the Staffie is actually being injured, I would tend to keep hands off and see if the Staffie, like Ben, gets fed up and stands up for himself. With a dog like a Staffie though, they have very powerful jaws and if actually bites the GSD, you could have a large vet bill on your hands. It would IMO clear the air though.

This is always a difficult one, when you have two dogs of a similar rank - I am guessing that is the case, because by now the Staffie would have submitted and the GSD would stop the bullying.

Makes little difference, although I find that 2 entire males together are a whole lot better than one entire, one neutered. Rank is rank IMO - Ben is neutered, Tai is entire, but they are of a similar rank.

I think you should look at getting a good behaviourist in to observe. Please don`t use anyone who uses pack theory or Dog Listener or Whisperer principles though.
And I advise just the opposite!!

Never the twain shall meet!!
