I'm sure my input is not really needed as good advice already given
if he was my lad....as said,if he will let you clip as much hair away from the wound as possible to stop decontamination,if you can get any 'hibiscrub' (chemist?)it would be good, but if not a saline soloution of a teaspoon of salt to a pint of boiled water and bathe the wound thoroughly(it may start bleeding again) flush it through as much as you can and dry.reasses the wound then, the most important thing is to not let him lick it!!..if it only skin dip and is a clean cut you will have two choices, either to get tacking stitches/ tissue glue or let it heal by secondary intention (no sutres) but may take longer to heal and could involve dressing changes...either way i wouldnt worry too much ...have a look in the morning and bathe it again, you may be suprised at how it looks
be very carefull with bandages a tight bandage is worse than no bandage
Thankyou! Dont worry bandage is loose - its just to stop him licking for now - he is such a clean wee boy

Excellent advice already. Just want to add that if it starts belleding through the bandage, don't take the old one off just wrap another one over the top.

Its only cos I asked him to sit, he was doing a trick so he looked happy
In the vets he wouldnt even pick his head up he was like some kind of strange hovercraft dog - I had to hold his head up to get him to walk home cos he was plowing the street

OMG that wound looks quite deep after the vet dealt with it, whereas your first pic, anybody would have thought it's pretty superficial, so good job you went! Glad to see he's ok now with his lovely new hat there! It's a good idea to keep some of that Savlon spray, coz it's iodine and it kills anything that's lurking when you get cuts like that, even if you deal with them at home, I swear by the stuff along with Hibiscrub which Layla mentioned. Good luck with him poor boy.
