The girl (Ms R) was 16yrs and my understanding was that she mainly worked w/e's.

It would appear that theres still mischief being flamed regarding this incident...

Wouldnt we agree that this unfortunate episode has ended... The dogs are fine now !

Update - Mary Ellen Collis appears in court on July 1st, charged with animal cruelty to 85 dogs and not fulfilling welfare levels of 14 others.

At least all of the Bernards are fine now, and have new loving homes!!

I met one of these dogs at our vets she was a 18 month old bitch. She is under size which is understandable considering she didn't have a good start in life. at least she is in a loving home with a young girl of 10 and 12 year old lab for company.

So pleased to hear the dogs have found good, new homes! Hope they all settle in well and enjoy their new lives.

One of the sad things about this whole affair is that some very valuable blood lines have presumably now been lost to the breed for ever - whatever is said about this unfortunate woman I don't think anyone would deny the fact that she has had some dogs of very high quality. As is always the case it seems it is the dogs - and the breed - that suffer.

I agree Cesky, it is a worry and now what will happen to the blood line? Mary Ellen did breed fantastic dogs before all of this happened.

I assume that, in line with RSPCA policy, all these dogs will have been neutered before being rehomed.

Sorry, but I find that comment a bit daft considering the circumstances. Fair enough, future lines have now been lost (if they were the right lines, Heezedoorn anyone?) but at least the dogs are now allowed to live a life instead of being allowed to rot among their own faeces, so who's the criminal?

Pleased to hear that there is now a court date. However, will the punishment fit the crime? Somehow, I doubt it...
