No, definitely not a hoax Suzi, it's for real that's for sure, especially when big bucks like 40 billion are involved, that will always cause a big stir, especially when there's people living on the streets starving!!! Hey ho, all in the name of science!!!

The cost is 5billion and when you put it into contex over almost 20yrs and between the 20+ countrys is not such a large amount.

It has also got people talking about it and if thet gets more people into science it can only be a good thing.

It may be also used to fight cancer, break down radioactive waste and possible fuel use and no doubt alot more things that we dont know about.

Look at the space race, thanks to that we have non-stick pans, gps, satellite and velcro(some debate though). Cern who are also responsble also created the world wide web, another thing used in everyday life.

Funny thing is though Phil, they never mentioned ANY of this before all the scaremongering did they??? Why was that then??? Personally, I think it's a bit of spin all these new things it MIGHT give us! They only seem to have come up with all of this since people have been e-mailing the media about their concerns? No? Before all of the hype, it was just to find that Higgs thingamigig and to show them what happened at the time of the Big Bang when the earth was created, and all of a sudden, they have now come up with all of these "extra's" we are going to get, well, MIGHT be going to get!
