Wellll ...... This has certainly turned into an interesting topic.

How on earth is Tam short for Thomas ?????
Wouldnt it be Tom short for Thomas?
So sorry I am not the mystery, only recently married with a baby on the way, but maybe one of my other personalities is (I am a gemini, so I dont need anyone else, I have myself to play with )

Hey Tam ,

Well in Scotland Tam is very common as a shortened version of Thomas usually around Glasgow. I am not sure why that and not Tom but I guess its to do with the language and the way we talk up here........it never occured to me it may be odd compared to Tom as usually anybody I know that has been called Thomas has always been shortened to Tam rather than Tom....different places I guess.

Tam in 1790 Robert Burns wrote a poem about Tam O' Shanter..all about a mare, drinking to much and winsome wenches.
The Scottish Regiments wear a little hat with a pompom on called a Tam O' Shanter and below is a picture of a typical scott wearing one Note..some of the more unusual posts in this thread have been from scotts is it any wonder they don't know what sex they are when they all look like this

Oh good old Rabbie Burns ....Scotlands Finest. Great poem that. I do hope me and CBT are not representative of the country lol

Mini that looks just like my brother lol. I wear those hats to work my beard isnt quite as long right enough.

More often than not they are actually called "See You Jimmy" hats.
