I don't think that means quite the same thing in Portugese law as it would here. Apparently the man has declared himself a suspect, which entitles him to legal representation and the right to remain silent. It doesn't necessarily mean that the police have any weight of evidence against him. I really hope there's something to give hope to her poor, poor family though. I can't imagine how they keep going
