hmmmm depends if you know who the child is? i still think id get my dog first. my dog is in a cage in the car, she couldnt get out without my help. a kid knows how to undo a seatbelt, they could get out on their own.

NO my children adore me they tell me every day if they were taken for me they would still love me just as much my dogs on the other hand would be just as happy looked after by someone else. They may miss me at fisrt but as long as they are fed and walked have somewhere warm and cosy to sleep I bet they wouldn't miss me at all.

I find that rather sick.
Really is there any need to spout such venom.

Don't get me wrong I am not saying everyone should have children, the choice is to the individual, but there is a difference in the type of love one has for each of them.
I agree

just rethinkin this and my answer. i dont think you would ever truly know until/if it happened. i never have children in the car, its always just me the OH n the dogs (theres no room for anyone else) so i would always say my dogs, as for saving someone i dont think it can be answered unless it happened because its the whole adreneline thing takin over.

I don't think it's venomous. I think it's an interesting dilemma. I don't have children, have no particular affinity for them, find them too sticky as a rule yet in the above hypothetical I feel I would instinctively reach for the child but I cannot explain why.

I can only deduce that a subconcious mechanism lays within me. It cannot be a learnt thing as I've never encountered such a senario so perhaps it is evidence of my genetics controling my responses?
