I guess that depends on whether you view fox hunting as cruelty or not. Either way, it is an illegal activity just as much as badger baiting, dog fighting etc - and would those activities also come under the umbrella of animal cruelty or animal rights?

Law breakers should be dealt with by the police.

I firmly believe that hunting and badger baiting is an animal welfare issue

And I would normally agree wholeheartedly with the above comment, but unfortunately our UK police forces are underfunded, understaffed and overstretched to their absolute limits and morale is at an all time low. With the best will in the world, cases involving animals will be lower down the list of importance than those against people.

The RSPCA should be viewed as the animal welfare branch of the police force imo - and be given the same powers of arrest etc.

If that's the case they should cease being a charity and be funded by the state. One hunt prosecution alone cost £330,000.

The Rspca and the police are wasting their time if the courts think this is justice

They pleaded guilty so yes it was successful but why should the Rspca spend it's donations in that way?

I believe if it was a successful prosecution then the guilty party would pay all costs.

Apparently not
Barnfield, of Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire, was fined £250 for each charge, totalling £1,000, and ordered to pay costs of £2,000. Sumner, of Salperton, Gloucestershire, was fined a total of £1,800 with costs of £2,500. The Heythrop Hunt Limited was fined a total of £4000 with £15,000 costs. All three were ordered to pay a £15 victim surcharge.
