My son was diagnosed autistic at age 4 (he 8 now). Your lucky you son is doing well educationally, my son has poor short term memory also and it is severely impacting upon his ability to learn as he is unable to retain information. A few weeks ago he was re-assessed by the educational psychologist who has said in the 2 years he has been in a specialist autistic unit he has barely progressed academically and is at the academic level of a 2 year old, which is something you would see in less than 1% of children of his age group with his dificulties and he needs to be doing tasks to work on his 'working memory', the school have said they are not trained in working memory and will have to apply for funding to get a specialist in to train them in it which I find shocking for a specialist autistic school since from what I can gather short term memory is a common problem in autistic children.

I'd say possible dyspraxia query some form of physical developmental delay.

One of our friend's children has been diagnosed with dyspraxia and he couldn't hold pens properly nor use knife and forks, flighty with his thoughts too...it took 10 years to get a diagnosis and she had to fight for it....wishing you good luck. x

we had the ADOS and it was a farce the results according to them showed no autistic/aspergers at all. When I quized them they couldn't even remember what had been said, I felt they had lost the report and were covering up for it. We are going for a second opinion. The therapist said she thinks its all anxiety related.....we don't. So we are still ongoing with it all
