Wet towel

Wet towel for a dog round his neck in this hot weather - does it help?

In the blazing sun, my two wore wet neck wraps. They are willing to stick their own heads through the loop so I'm guessing that they must appreciate them.

Amber doesn't like water which for a Labrador is most unusual but I do rub her down with wet wipes and Steve wets her head and she lets him so not all bad, but a wet towel I might give it a try!

You have to be very vigilant with wet towels as they dry out very quickly, especially in this heat and then that traps the heat more. So be very careful if doing this.

Yes, but is it a good thing to try?

Yes it's a good thing to try. If he lays on a bed you could freeze some refilled bottles of water and wrap them in a t-towel to keep them cool too. Place a frozen tupperware or similar in front of a fan gives off a cooler breeze too. Mine are all laying splattered on the tiles trying to keep cool. I think they've worked out the best distance from the fan and there is no moving them.

We have the mats, one downstairs and one upstairs on his bed. I was thinking of the wet towel for when he is out in the garden with us. He does find shady places. Under the phormium is one such.

And he will get this frozen treat later. The tangerine decoration is carrot pieces and the icing is mash. The chocolate on the bottom is regular dog food.

I just love that typical collie expression. I miss my old lad so much, he was similar to your lad - just so laid back yet full of mischief and energy when he was younger
