Scent detection activities?

I know this is probably a really dumb question, but I guess I'm just using the wrong words when i search this question. What are all of the scent detection activities you can do with your dog? Doesn't help that I seem to get them mixed up..

Again, sorry for the stupid question, I think I'm just using the wrong words.

Well with Amber we throw her ball into the long grass and she will scent it out but then Labradors are good at that.

I am not sure what activities you have in the US but over here we have :

http://scentworkuk.com/

As well as the scentwork involved in tracking in sports such as working trials, IPO etc.
